Utter the word ‘Pondicherry’ and you are flooded with recommendations for ‘must’ places to dine. We too had dug into a fair share of research for good food. Being an ex French colony, promises of a good French cuisine in every neighbourhood abound. And then there are claims of good Mangalorean as well as Kerala-style coastal food. We were game for all, and so, here is our line-up for the best three restaurants in Pondicherry!
Breakfast at Baker Street in Pondicherry: Tell me you love a good breakfast spread, with good French breads and good coffee. If yes, Baker Street is where you should head for breakfast. Their choice of breads and breakfast options is guaranteed to bring that first smile of the day on your face. Read my complete review of the place at Breakfast at Baker Street in Pondicherry.
Lunch at Le Dupleix in Pondicherry: Why are we recommending lunch at Le Dupleix? Because we had lunch there too and was so enamoured by its vintage look and feel. More than 300 years old, the old lady retains her charm. Post a deeply researched restoration, Le Dupleix has brought back the mansion’s lost glory, and you can see/sense it everywhere.
Now don’t you think I am recommending the place just because I got hooked by its history and charm. No! The food is equally good. Choose from European or Indian fare. Just as tasty and full of flavours. Their cocktails are ‘trail-blazing’. Must order the Mango Masala Daiquiri. I insist! Read my review of the place at Lunch at Le Dupleix in Pondicherry.
Dinner at Carte Blanche in Pondicherry: Oh, a violinist plays his violin while you are sipping that lovely wine and having your dinner. Isn’t that absolutely regale? Another of those restored French mansions in Pondicherry, Carte Blanche too offers style and class. Food-wise, you get to choose from European and Indian dishes, with the staff helping you with the day’s special. So go ahead and book your table here for a beautiful dinner.
