A two-night stay to ring in the new year better be a special place, said Jayanta. And so, booked Coco bay, a boutique resort in Unawatuna that had a private beach and was just a 15-minute drive from the main town of Galle.
Being a boutique resort, the place is compact and nice with just a handful of rooms. That means, no crowd! Which is what we like and look for.
A massive room and an equally massive bathroom brings that instant smile to your lips. Very elegantly done up, with summer colours on the upholstery, fresh flowers in the bathroom, assortment of fresh fruits that are complimentary, cookies for the evenings make it a truly stylish and comfortable stay here at the Coco Bay.
Plus, every room faces the beach. Which means, you go to bed with the sound of the waves and wake up with the sound of the waves. Being west facing, you will get an awesome view of the sunset from the verandah of your room.
Food at Coco Bay is an amazing experience. For the first night, there was buffet dinner with a very good spread of sea-food including lobsters, prawns, fishes, lamb and chicken over and above the usual vegetables and salads. Dinner on new year’s eve was a sit down 5-course meal that was a celebration of good food. A fitting end to a good year and a good trip to Sri Lanka, we ate and drank in complete delight.
At Coco Bay, they serve dinner on the portico adjoining the beach. Accompanied by live music and the song of the waves, it makes for a very very romantic setting. The staff are extremely polite and help you with all your requests. The owner of the hotel too walks by every table in order to ensure that the stay is comfortable and to address complaints, if any.
For the new year celebrations, the Coco Bay staff had arranged for sky lanterns for every guest, and also a decent line-up of fireworks. A wonderful start to the new year as we sent up those lanterns with our prayers…
