The idea was to stay inside the old city and in a homestay sort of a place so that we could soak into the very essence of Cesky Krumlov. Chanced upon Pension Nostalgie, and were duly convinced by all the reviews we read on the internet. Wrote to its owners and were confirmed a booking of 2 days-2 nights.
Pension Nostalgie is located right in the middle of the old city — our cabbie from Hallstat (Austria) dropped us right at its doorstep despite the narrow and cobbled lanes. Thank goodness for that! We had 4-5 big bags and a walk past the cobbled streets would have been bad for the bags!
Being centrally located, we’d be just 2-3 minutes’ walk away from the best restaurants of Cesky Krumlov. This was a big advantage, since the Nostalgie provides only breakfast. Plus, the Castle was almost at an arm’s length. We could see it from our bedroom window. And could hear the church bells as well.
Staying at Pension Nostalgie had been one of our most charming experiences. A three-floor old house, the ground and the first floor has been opened for guests. The owner, Jana, a charming and extremely friendly lady in her 60s, lives on the top floor and comes down every morning to set your breakfast and chat with you. And although she speaks very little English, she tends to understand your requirements/questions and you tend to understand her hand movements and vigorous shaking of the head. When you check in though, her son, Vladimir, who lives close-by, comes over to help you with the basic info for the town.
We had been allotted a large room in the ground floor with a large bath. Geared with all the basic requirements and a view of the castle from the window, the place has a very personal touch. The kitchen and breakfast corner is upstairs and Jana explained that it is open at all hours, and that we could go upstairs any time to fix ourselves a cup of tea or coffee or even milk for our daughter.
She’d lay the breakfast table every morning and almost fed us like our own Mom, forcing us second helpings and stashing away fruits and muffins and cookies for our day tours. We almost would beg her to give no more!
Nostalgie has good internet connectivity too.
A perfect place for an authentic local stay, we’d recommend you to sign up at the Pension Nostalgie if you are planning a holiday in Cesky Krumlov. The stay simply adds to the experience and its warmth lingers on long after……
