We were on our way to the North of Iceland today and were slated to drive about a 100kms today.
Started the day with a prayer. Seriously. Peeked into this church right behind our hotel in Myvatn, we asked the Lord to give us sun. After all, we had had enough of rain, snow, sleet over the last two days!
God had heard our prayers — got wee bit of drizzle when we went to see the Godafoss waterfall. A circular waterfall, majestic by every standards, it is a nice walk up to its observatory. By this time the sun had peeked out in good measure. The first time, for us, a waterfall in Iceland when the sun was out, we loved the walk to and fro the most. On our way back, we had opened our gloves too! Miracle, by Iceland standards!

From Godafoss, we went straight to Akureyri, the second biggest town in Iceland after Reykjavik. You take the Vaðlaheiðargöng tunnel at Eyjafjörður, and the moment out of it, Akureyri is to your right. Because of the sun, it sparkled in the ripple of the bay and looked most resplendent with the lupinas growing all over.
And just how much we loitered in this little picturesque town based in the Eyjafjöròur Fjord for the later half of the day. The sun, by now, was out in full form. The temperature hovered around 4° though, what with the cold winds from North Atlantic ocean.

Walked all of Akureyri, we saw its little old town, its beautiful botanical garden, church, shopping neighbourhood, harbour, a nursery too….and called it a day with a sumptuous dinner at this restaurant Jayanta fell for the name — We Bloody Love Steaks! Beat that! And thanks to the gracious sun, we managed to have ice creams too. Now, as we call it a day, we are hoping that we didn’t sin too much, and that the sun comes back tomorrow too…
